Lead SAP Consultant (interim/freelance)

In this role you will;

• Lead the functional consulting team and act as the senior functional design authority across an end-to-end SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public solution.
• Create coherence across domains such as commerce and order management, logistics and fulfilment, master data, subscription and billing, and finance.
• Combine hands-on solution leadership with team development, capacity planning, delivery governance and senior stakeholder management.

Key responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end functional solution and ensure that order-to-cash, subscription-to-cash and record-to-report processes connect consistently across domains.
• Set functional design standards, quality gates and reusable patterns; chair cross-domain design reviews and resolve functional conflicts.
• Champion fit-to-standard and clean-core delivery; assess extension requests and guide genuine gaps towards appropriate side-by-side solutions.
• Lead, coach and develop a team of functional consultants and allocate functional capacity across workstreams and delivery phases.
• Own functional quality across design, system integration testing, user acceptance testing, cutover, hypercare and operational handover.
• Act as a senior partner to business process owners and programme leadership, providing clear decisions, status updates and risk management.
• Assess the functional impact of SAP cloud releases and ensure solution stability and continued adoption.

We are looking for candidates with;

• Senior hands-on delivery experience with SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition.
• Proven experience as a Lead or Principal Functional Consultant on a large, multi-workstream SAP transformation or international rollout.
• Deep expertise in SAP SD and broad working knowledge of at least one additional area such as logistics or MM, FI/CO, BRIM or subscription billing, or master data.
• Demonstrated leadership of functional consultants, including coaching, performance management and capacity planning.
• Strong fit-to-standard, clean-core and integration governance experience, preferably involving SAP Integration Suite.
• Excellent stakeholder management and the confidence to facilitate design decisions across business and technology teams.

Desirable experience

• Breadth across multiple SAP functional domains and end-to-end business processes.
• SAP Activate experience and relevant SAP S/4HANA Cloud certifications.
• Experience with domain-aligned delivery teams, multi-country rollouts or recurring-revenue business models.
• Awareness of SAP BTP extensibility and enterprise integration patterns.

The hourly rate depends on experience and expertise and ranges from EUR 100–120, excluding VAT.

Duration: 6–12 months minimum, with a commitment of 32–40 hours per week.

Candidates must be based in the EU.
